On June 30, the Department of Medical Genetics further established its reputation as a leading department in UBC’s Faculty of Medicine. Drs. Matt Lorincz and Steven Jones each received a Distinguished Achievement Award, for Basic Science Research and Overall Excellence respectively.
Dr. Lorincz’s research focuses on the role of histone modifications, DNA methylation, and chromatin remodeling factors in transcriptional regulation of genes and retroelements, while Dr. Jones researches cancer genomics to understand the mutational landscape of cancer with the goal of helping to understand the diversity of oncogenic driving events that accrue and give rise to cancer and ensure its progression.
Faculty of Medicine Awards are given once a year to distinguished faculty members whose performance during a year-long assessment period is deemed exceptional. Congratulations!
