Welcome! We are so pleased to have you join or seek information about the postgraduate medicine training programs in Medical Genetics and Genomics at the University of British Columbia. We offer a 5 year residency training and a 3 year clinical fellowship training and are pleased to provide experiences within general genetics, prenatal genetics, hereditary cancer genetics, and biochemical diseases in addition to complementary training experiences. Training is currently based mainly in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island providing care across the province and the Yukon. Our program supports and integrates a wide spectrum of clinical, research, and educational experiences in this exciting and expanding time for genetics. We pride ourselves on our ability to tailor training to the learners needs while supporting overall competencies. We look forward to knowing you throughout your learning journey and beyond!

Clinical Genetics
The UBC Department of Medical Genetics supports two routes for physicians to train as Clinical Geneticists: the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada-accredited Medical Genetics and Genomics Residency Program and the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) Clinical Genetics Fellowship.
Medical Genetics and Genomics Residency Program
The UBC Medical Genetics and Genomics Residency Program is a five-year training program that follows the guidelines of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The UBC Department of Medical Genetics is accredited through the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) to offer a three-year fellowship program in Clinical Genetics.
