Overview: A postdoctoral scholar position is available immediately for a highly motivated recent PhD graduate to join the laboratory of Dr. Michael Hayden at the Centre of Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics.


Position Summary
A postdoctoral scholar position is available immediately for a highly motivated individual to join the laboratory of Dr. Michael Hayden at the Centre of Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, Department of Medical Genetics, University of British Columbia (UBC). The program represents a collaboration with Dr. Bruce Verchere at the Child & Family Research Institute, Department of Surgery and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, UBC.

The fellow will join a highly productive laboratory with a focus on identifying potential mechanisms to improve cholesterol homeostasis in pancreatic islets, thereby improving glucose homeostasis during diabetic dyslipidemia.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a good publication record in respected journals and have a talent for independent research in physiology and cell biology. Prior experience in islet biology and diabetes would be an asset, along with some experience in small animal handling.

The ideal applicant will possess a curiosity and passion for science and a talent for independent research, which should be supported by a strong publication record with at least two first author publications in respected journals.

While this position is grant-funded, the successful applicant will be expected to apply for his or her own external funding.
