Researchers in the CFRI Genetics & Health research cluster use the powerful tools of human genetics and genomics to improve human health and quality of life through translational medicine. There are extensive collaborations among clinical genetic researchers and scientists at CFRI and throughout the Department of Medical Genetics with expertise in molecular genetics, biochemical genetics, molecular cytogenetics, genomics and other complementary areas, providing outstanding opportunities to train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows as well as clinical fellows, residents and genetic counselling students in research that fosters the application of recent advances in genetics and genomics to improve patient care.
We now seek an outstanding translational researcher whose interests and expertise complement those of other Department and CFRI investigators, and who can bring new directions or technologies in the emerging era of Genomic Medicine.
The Child and Family Research Institute (CFRI) is a partnership with The University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) whose member agencies include the BC Children’s Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children and the BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. The CFRI is dedicated to high quality research spanning a wide range of concerns relevant to children’s and family health.
Applicants will be expected to establish an independent research program and to compete nationally and internationally for operating grants, contribute to the teaching mission of the department and make service contributions. Applicants will also utilize their excellent communication skills to work in an open team environment that includes sharing of core infrastructure and participation in multi-disciplinary and collaborative grant applications.
The successful candidate will have a PhD, MD or equivalent in a related field, demonstrated excellence in teaching and an outstanding record of research accomplishments compatible with their career stage.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date for the position is as soon as possible or upon a date to be mutually agreed.
