The Department of Medical Genetics and the Laboratories of Neurogenetics at the University of British Columbia invite applications from outstanding scientists for a Canada Research Chair (CRC) – Tier II. The successful candidate will be eligible to hold an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track. Candidates must have a PhD degree, MD/PhD, or equivalent with postdoctoral research experience, have demonstrated excellence in teaching and demonstrated accomplishments in molecular, statistical or computational genetics with relevance to human neurologic or neurodegenerative disorders.
The individual selected will be subject to review and final approval by the CRC Secretariat. The start date of this position is upon a date to be mutually agreed, but available immediately after approval by CRC. The successful candidate will be expected to be competitive for external grant funding to develop and maintain a dynamic research program that fosters new opportunities for genetic discovery and translational research. As a faculty member in Medical Genetics the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to both undergraduate and graduate teaching and actively participate in departmental activities. They will be a group leader of the Laboratories of Neurogenetics, a collaborative group of dedicated, experienced and highly motivated clinicians, molecular geneticists, bioinformaticians, neurogeneticists and neuroscientists with closely affiliated research programs, currently directed by Canada Excellence Research Chair, Dr. Matt Farrer (www.can.ubc.ca). Research is performed in partnership with the Brain Research Centre and the newly created Centre for Brain Health, UBC and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, UBC and BC Children and Women’s Hospital, and Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, UBC and VCH.
