Research Interests: Genetics of birth defects

We focus on craniofacial defects, particularly mouse models of the common human birth defects cleft lip and palate, and anencephaly. Both are genetically complex multifactorial traits. We have mapped to various chromosomal locations the gene loci that interact to cause these birth defects, and are identifying the genes involved and the specific alteration in each of the genes or their regulatory regions. We also study the sequence of embryological events that lead to the developmental defects.
