See video clip relating to Dr. Matt Lorincz’s research article published in Science: “Vertebrate diapause preserves organisms long term through Polycomb complex members.”  Watch African killifish embryos enter suspended animation to survive. This novel study, undertaken in collaboration with colleagues at Stanford University, illuminates the molecular mechanisms that underlie diapause, a state of suspended embryonic development in the African turquoise killifish, revealing a role for Polycomb complex members in diapause maintenance.
