It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Medical Genetics Graduate Program. This is a very exciting time for you, a new beginning to your future career. You have chosen to join a very vibrant research community dedicated to furthering our knowledge of human health. Laboratories in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia are located at several sites on- and off-campus, including on campus and at several of the research hospitals in the area. Despite these diverse locations, members of the Department are united in their commitment to excellence in genetic research aimed at furthering our understanding of human biology. It is my hope that you will discover with pleasure the members of this dynamic research community that includes both clinicians and basic researchers who interact closely and actively collaborate in numerous areas of genetics and genomics. I hope that you will take advantage of this wealth of knowledge and expertise during your graduate training. I look forward to meeting each of you and wish you much success in your future academic and research careers.
