Research Supervisor Requirements

SEPTEMBER-START APPLICANTS: MSC AND PHD

  • Canadian, Permanent Residents (PR) and International
Do you need to secure a research supervisor before applying?
  • September-start MSc and PhD applicants are not required to secure the commitment of a research supervisor before submitting their admissions applications.
By what date do you need to finalize the commitment of a supervisor?
  • The Admissions Committee reviews completed applications. Applicants will be notified if their applications are ranked admissible or declined.
  • Admissible applicants must secure the written commitment of a Medical Genetics Research Supervisor before receiving a final offer of admission to the Medical Genetics Graduate Program at UBC.
  • The deadline to secure the commitment of a Research Supervisor is JUNE 1ST for international applicants and JULY 1st for Canadian and American applicants.

JANUARY-START APPLICANTS: PHD ONLY

  • Canadian, Permanent Residents (PR) and International
  • The Medical Genetics Graduate Program Office will open January applications only by request to PhD applicants who meet Medical Genetics prerequisites; grade point average (GPA) and TOEFL/IELTS (if applicable) requirements and who have received a written commitment from a Medical Genetics Research Supervisor at the time of application.

Application Opens: April 15th
Application Closes: May 15th
All documents, including references, must be received by May 15th.

September and January applicants submit: Statement of Interest (also known as Statement of Intent); Curriculum Vitae; ALL post-secondary transcripts including a grading key, and degree certificates (if applicable) for in-progress and completed degree programs; references; and a TOEFL/IELTS score (if applicable) by the application deadline, otherwise your application is considered incomplete and will be declined.
